Another Reason To Get Out of Bed

Why do you get out of bed?

I really resonate with the second point from the FuneralOne blog.  F. Todd Winninger has a list of 6 things that get the Funeral Director out of bed every morning.

#2: The “Corporal Works of Mercy”

Works of mercy are expressed in the teachings of St. Thomas of Aquinas and The Bible, and are adhered to in the Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran and Methodist denominations. But, they are widely practiced by all Christians. Specifically, they are:

1. To feed the hungry. 2. To give drink to the thirsty. 3. To clothe the naked. 4. To harbour the harbourless. 5. To visit the sick. 6. To visit the imprisoned. 7. To bury the dead.

Essentially, what goes around, comes around – “blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7; the Beatitudes). Burial of the dead recognizes the misfortune of others, and your work is to alleviate or minimize the family’s suffering. Funeral service is one of the few professions or vocations where doing your job equates to “dispensing mercy”.

How to become good at something

I love this quote from an email I received today.

Learning shouldn’t be relegated to your leftover time and attention. The
best way to give learning and improvement the best chance of sticking
is to treat them like any other obgliation or responsibility you have. Put
them on the calendar if you have to, but trying to excise any sort of
value out of the crumbs of your day is going to make learning far more
challenging than it already is on its own.

Learning takes time, and we all have the same amount. How are you spending yours?

Take a look at this.

Ironic…Driving to “Work” listening to “Quitter”

Driving almost 2 hrs a day to and from work, allows me quality time to listen to tons of sermons, podcasts, and audiobooks. My newest audio adventure in my “Drive Time University” is Quitter. The first section, “Don’t Quit Your Day Job,” has been great and has motivated me to continue the drive, for now….

If you’ve used work and quit in the same sentence lately, you might want to listen and or read.

Jon Acuff is also the author of the book on my nightstand that has been getting great reviews over the last week. Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average and Do Work that Matters

Ironic…Work, quit, start.
